Pre-Primary classroom

Inspire Organic Learning

DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS

 Designed for children ages 15 months to three years old

 Need for movement and drive for exploration are focal points of our Toddler environments

 Children learn how to be part of a classroom community

 Emphasis on caring for themselves; dressing, toileting, hand washing, eating and blowing their noses

Between the first and third year, the child perfects his ability to use language to communicate, learns to walk, climb and run, gains greater control of his/her arms and hands, feeds and dresses himself independently and uses the toilet without assistance. This need for movement and drive for freedom from outside restraints are the focal points of our Respect and Peace Pre-Primary Classrooms.

During this period, children learn how to be part of a classroom community: developing patience to wait their turn, learning to be respectful of others and their feelings, and becoming more social. There is also an increased emphasis on independence, caring for themselves by dressing, toileting, hand washing, eating and blowing their noses. We observe an explosion of language at this stage and the ability to communicate clearly with others is a main focus of the Pre-Primary years.

As the child’s gross motor skills and coordination progress, her focus moves to increased fine motor capabilities. As she works with the materials that that have been prepared for her, you can observe her growing interest in the smallest of details. This increasing ability for more precise movements, along with increased focus and concentration are signs the child is ready to move into a Primary classroom.

“The child’s conquests of independence are the basic steps in what is called his “natural development”. In other words, if we observe natural development with sufficient care, we can see that it can be defined as the gaining of successive levels of independence.”
