DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS

As the child reaches this third birthday, his physical changes begin to slow, and the focus turns towards refining movements as he learns to organize all of the input that has been absorbed through the senses. Children in our Primary Classroom, ages 3 to 6 years old, learn best by doing. Our Primary teachers are highly trained and able to observe the child’s interests and skills and to know just the right way and time to present a lesson so that the child cannot wait to try it. The Montessori curriculum, based on self-chosen, non-competitive activities, develops in the young child the ability and confidence to face challenges and change with optimism. Our children display better social and behavioral abilities, demonstrating a greater sense of justice and fairness. They are responsible, mature leaders who Our primary classrooms are full of beautiful materials that are available for exploration and learning. Children in this stage of development have an “absorbent mind” and learn to read, write, complete advance math operations and achieve a high level of understanding their world through individual lessons offered by their teachers and by continually observing others in the classroom. It is typical for a classroom to experience successive “explosions” of reading or math activities, as one child’s interests ignites those of her friends. It is not uncommon to see one group after another reading, writing counting to 100, or practicing multiplication tables within a few weeks of each other. This dynamic learning environment is best observed in person. Please call 770-814-8001 or click here to schedule a tour.
